Diversity of dormant and active zooplankton stages: spatial patterns across scales in temperate riverine floodplains

چکیده

Abstract In dynamic systems, many species use dormancy as a strategy to survive harsh periods and disperse through time, fundamental aspect scarcely explored in metacommunities studies. We compared spatial patterns of resting egg bank active zooplankton diversity across scales (rotifers cladocerans), relationships between environmental factors their composition riverine floodplains the Danube River. The was similarly or even more heterogeneous than communities, signals community homogenization detected for communities were not observed bank. strong rotifers local hydrological parameters suggest that floods would weaken diversity–environment relationships, communities. These results imply stages are affected by different processes contribute homogenizing tendencies Our study contributes thorough understanding shows need further investigate temporal banks within framework metacommunities.

Coastal tropical zooplankton: Patterns and processes over spatial scales

Previous studies on the abundance/biomass and species distribution of coastal tropical zooplankton have been done at a few stations, making them unsuitable to study spatial patterns. Whereas several physical and biological processes have been found to generate and maintain the spatial patterns of coastal tropical zooplankton, the scales of spatial dependency of these processes and their effects...

Altitudinal Patterns of Species Diversity and Phylogenetic Diversity across Temperate Mountain Forests of Northern China

The spatial patterns of biodiversity and their underlying mechanisms have been an active area of research for a long time. In this study, a total of 63 samples (20m × 30m) were systematically established along elevation gradients on Mount Tai and Mount Lao, China. We explored altitudinal patterns of plant diversity in the two mountain systems. In order to understand the mechanisms driving curre...

Spatial ecology across scales.

The international conference 'Models in population dynamics and ecology 2010: animal movement, dispersal and spatial ecology' took place at the University of Leicester, UK, on 1-3 September 2010, focusing on mathematical approaches to spatial population dynamics and emphasizing cross-scale issues. Exciting new developments in scaling up from individual level movement to descriptions of this mov...

Combining Information Across Spatial Scales

Spatial and spatial-temporal processes in the physical, environmental, and biological sciences often exhibit complicated and diverse patterns across different spacetime scales. Both scientific understanding, often reflected in computer models, and observational data vary in form and content across scales. We develop and examine a Bayesian hierarchical framework by which the combination of such ...

Association of Host and Microbial Species Diversity across Spatial Scales in Desert Rodent Communities

Relationships between host and microbial diversity have important ecological and applied implications. Theory predicts that these relationships will depend on the spatio-temporal scale of the analysis and the niche breadth of the organisms in question, but representative data on host-microbial community assemblage in nature is lacking. We employed a natural gradient of rodent species richness a...
